Great Fitting Jeans – You should invest in at least 2 pairs: 1 pair dark denim that could be worn with high shoes or boots for going out and 1 pair shortened to work with casual low shoes such as ballet flats or funky athletic shoes.

Go Anywhere Tops – These are an essential item that can be worn with jeans, to work under a jacket or with a skirt for an evening out.

White Shirt – A crisp cotton and poly fitted shirt that looks great with jeans or dress pants.

Fitted or Cropped Jacket or Suit – This could be a stand alone item to be worn with dress pants, skirt or jeans. It could also be co-ordinated with a matching skirt to create a suit when worn together.

Accessories – A Signature Bag –This should be something funky and interesting. Here’s a place to have fun and make a statement with size, embellishments or a pop of colour. –Jewellery – This is something that can add your look to an outfit and take something from ordinary to wow! No outfit is complete without the “finishing touch”.

Footwear – The most basic wardrobe needs to include a pair of pumps (black patent is most versatile), low shoes (ballet flats or similar) and high boots with a medium heel.

Black Pants – These should initially be purchased in an all-season fabric. After your basics are purchased, black pants – long or cropped – are a great addition in a lighter weight cotton.

Trench-ish Coat – This is a must-have staple. It can go with everything from jeans to dressy. A bright colour or white is a fun addition to perk things up.

Cardigan – A neutral colour is a great addition to be worn all year round. A shorter style works well with all bottoms and sleeveless dresses, but the longer “boyfriend” cardi is popular right now with jeans and narrower leg dress pants.

Little Black Dress – Spend time finding the perfect LBD for all seasons. Sleeveless is great, because you can wear your cardi or cropped jacket with it in the winter. A black dress can be accessorized to be worn to a casual party, wedding or more formal event.

Once you’ve taken care of these essential items, many other basics may be added to extend your wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to mix prices ranges and to purchase styles that can be used with several other items – ex. - choose a dressy top that can go with a skirt or black dress pants, but can also be paired with dressy jeans for a casual night out.
