Let's have a discussion about denim

Once again, a new Season brings us to another discussion on jeans and what we should buy. It's amazing that there are so many options available, as well as colours.

How does one choose??

Firstly, I'd say set aside your skinnies. By skinnies, I mean those jeans that go in at the ankle. Unless you are wearing them tucked into high boots, they are not current. Skinnies will probably never go completely out of style and are apparently showing up again in Europe, so if you love them, just hang on to them. Moving in the right direction are the slim leg, girlfriend, or slim boyfriend styles. Many of these are rolled up; Joseph Ribkoff's super popular cropped jean or Liverpool's style. This jean is just slightly wider than a skinny and doesn't taper at the ankle. We love it!

An outstanding fit are the jeans by Mac. Made in Germany, the Dream Straight Leg is a style we always carry and it's one of the few jeans you can find in dark denim all year round. This is an excellent classic style, with a high rise and long leg. Tribal also does a great straight leg which comes in lighter coloured denim, for Spring. Most of our denim for Spring will be light in colour, with faded detailing.

Now let's talk about the wider leg styles. There are so many available and every length and width you could want. We have super wide legs from Part Two - in a light weight trouser style. There are cropped, fringed wide legs by Joseph Ribkoff, Mavi and Tribal - that we can't keep in stock. We have high waisted, wide legs from Liverpool and of course, Cambio always has the coolest styles in luxurious fabrics for those that like a slightly lower rise.

We will be seeing a lot of coloured denim, again this season. I'm in love with the pistachio coloured denim from Cambio and we will be receiving many colours from Tribal and Liverpool. Of course, white is ubiquitous and will be available in many different shapes.

As far as footwear is concerned, naturally funky sneakers, sandals and loafers are perfect. I would have said that you need a heavier shoe than a high heel for the wider leg styles, but I've even seen those paired up. The short tops and sweaters are the best proportion for the wide leg jeans but if you have a longer style top, you can always do a front tuck to make it work. A tucked in shirt, belt and cropped jacket will complete your look for transition into Spring - and you are ready to rock!

Have fun shopping!
