Janie's Fashion Report

June 2024

Ciao Bella! A look at stunning Spring and Summer styles from Greece and Italy!

Greetings fashionistas! It’s Janie here, fresh from the vibrant streets of Greece and the chic avenues of Italy. It’s been an amazing three week trip marvelling at the sites in Barcelona, Athens, Milano, Rome, Ephesus , and many cites of Greece and Italy. On this trip, I was excited to see all the hottest trends in European fashion! While each city and region boasts its own unique flair, there have been several themes that have emerged as major trends for this summer season. But, before we dive in, let me confirm that Pistachio is right on trend - as always!

Monochromatic mastery.

Simplicity is key this summer, with Europeans embracing head to toe looks in a single or tone-on-tone colour. In Greece, flowy white linen pants and breezy tops were so cool and perfectly suited to the climate. Whereas in Milan, the look was more tailored and structured with single or neutral colours. There were also many suits in vibrant colours, such as green and pink that were highly visible on the streets. Milan is a business city, and let me say that the men were also impeccibly dressed in navy suits, often slim ankle pants, beautiful leather shoes - with few socks to be seen. The Mediterranean diet is obviously effective, because they were all slim and handsome!

The power of print.

Not to be fooled by the popularity of monochromatic looks, prints and eyelet were also major players. I had the opportunity in Milan, to take a private fashion and design tour from an excellent guide, who filled us in on many designers, trends and the “Milanese Look”. The long shirt dress in print, worn with ankle strapped ballet shoes, was the total look and could be seen on all the streets. In Barcelona, prints have always been popular and 2024 was no exception. Spanish people love bright colours and mixing prints - and do it well! Santorini and Mykonos featured a few linen prints which were large and bold - paired with solid tops or bottoms in neutral shades of white and beige.

Blazers - without a doubt, they were ubiquitous!

Over shorts, jeans, wide legs, skinny legs and dresses. They were “The Look”, being either fitted, boxy or double breasted. They reminded me of the great blazers we have sold so well, from Part Two - definitely on trend!

Jeans - everything goes!

While the wide leg was everywhere, I also saw a lot of skinny and slim jeans. Many were worn with high shoes, creating a very sophisticated look. Those ladies really know how to rock a stiletto over cobblestones! Most impressive!

Ruffles and Flounces.

Ruffles on everything from t-shirts to blouses to skirts. Lots of flounced and tiered dresses and skirts in prints were seen in Lake Como and Milan. It is a very feminine look and reminded me of several dresses we have from Tribal and Dress Addict. Very light and airy.
